In this March filled with ethereal catkin and blooming flowers, I went to Suzhou again. There are pink and white cherry blossoms everywhere on the street. The misty rain of Jiangnan permeates charm and romance. At noon I went to Wanguochun Chinese Restaurant located in the Yihe Riverside with a history of 300 years. Yihe Riverside is the former residence of Madam Wang, the wife of the leading courtier in the late Qing Dynasty Pan Zuyin, and was founded during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. I was obsessed with its squirrel-shaped mandarin fish, sliced lotus root with sweet sauce, and sweet green rice ball. It really makes the first-class delicacy and the authentic Soochow cuisine. This March, our team has been working nights over nights to gather all the requisite materials for the CSC application that our German key academic leaders prepared for the 19 promising Chinese young doctors. These two days, the Deputy Medical Director of the University Hospital of Munich, Prof. Stief, personally made calls twice to check the progress of the research proposal of a promising doctor from Shanghai. And at 1:00 last morning, a renowned German expert was still working extra hours for our project. We were deeply moved by their kindness. It seems like it could take me many years to finally realize that Suzhou for me is not only a city. Suzhou is the cradle of my childhood harboring in Jiangnan. I still remember the time I was apart from him. It was a rainy day and he took a dark green umbrella. He reached out in silence to cover me from the rain and walked me to the company. That was the first time it hit me how fortunate it is to have someone sheltering me. I told him, “There is an ancient Chinese tale saying that the rain comes when the precious is about to leave.”From the day he met me, he knew that however other people think of me and whatever setback I encounter, in his eyes and his mind, I will always be the special and unique woman in the world. He will always treat me like a treasure. I cherish my job.
